Parainfluenza Virus

i ve been away from my blog coz hakak dok bz ngan anak bongsu yang tak sihat. Kisahnya dari a day before kami pergi closing sea games, dia dah bagi tanda2 demam batuk bagai. Even petang sebelum kita pi stadium for closing seagames pun, dia tidur jerrrrr… (sesuatu yang sangat jarang2 berlaku lah tang tidur petang nih).

The next daynya macam ok, but still ada coughing, but malamnya demam panas. so tu dah kira 2,3 hari jadi demamnya. Yang peliknya demam dia malam jer…and panas sangat. Di hari raya haji, pagi tu gak lepas solat raya, bapaknya bawak pi clinic (dia tak berbaju raya pun pagi tu, pi tengok lembu pun ngan baju biasa jer, bila dah nak ke rumah nenek atuknya baru ler dia berbaju raya). So amik gas segala bagai, dapatlah ubat ngan antibiotic. Pun batuk takde perubahan.

Malam masih demam panas cam tu gak…panas sangat, like 40 ok.

Esoknya, seharian dia melepek gak dengan batuk tak hehenti, and kita balik rumah mak mertua aku. Habis jer dinner, badan dia naik balik panas. so that s it lah. aku cakap, malam ni last, kalau masih gak camnih, Zeeshan kena pi spital.

So dia meracau2 la demam malam tu (almost semua jenis petua traditional ke modern aku dah bedal 2,3 malam yang dia tak sihat tu tak menjadik gak). Blood test je tak amik lagi.

That one last nite, berjaga gak lah aku, memang makin kuat panas badan dia, confirm above 40 gak, so sesubuh alam tu, pas laki aku mandi siap, aku turun panaskan nasi yellow soup dia, bekalkan laki aku karipap gak, and ubat2 doctor clinic pun aku sumbatkan sama gak (coz kadang2 hospital nak tau jenis ubat yang dema amik dapat from the clinic), lom kol 7 pagi depa dah pi spital.

Depa pi berdua jer, coz aku nak masak2 bagai sikit, nak buat tu ini, and lelapkan mata sejam 2 coz aku tak tidur sangat malam tu kan, kang nak jaga anak lagi,  sebelum aku sendiri naik grab (rigt after Zeeshan terus kena admitted).  By noon tu aku dah sampai spital…bawak luggage kain baju segala lah…and memang dah dijangka yang dia akan kena admit pun.

cut the story short, 2 nites jugak Zeeshan tidur kat spital, patutnya 3 malam, but hari ketiga siang tu aku mintak discharge. Lagipun on the 3rd day tu orang dah start kerja (last Tues), so aku pun yang tidur hospital bersiap dari bilik anak aku jer. Bapaknya datang pagi tu aku terus pi kerja and dia uruskan discharge Zeeshan.  Biasalah Prince court tuh, minimum 3 jam untuk admit and 3 jam for discharge…huh lemau!

Dah habis process discharge baru aku datang balik noon tu coz dia sekali lagi dok ‘nak mami nak mami’

First nite Zeeshan kat hospital bapaknya ada tidur temankan dia, aku balik coz the next nite nya aku pulak tidur sana but siangnya kami take turn gak, jap laki aku jap aku…coz kita pun ada 2 anak lain kat rumah kan. Some more kakak pun nak kena balik her hostel too. Takpelah sorang parent je kat hospital coz sorang lagi leh merehatkan diri, lagipun bersempit je heh tidur laki bini kat sofa bed tuh, ada gak aku panjat tidur sekatil ngan anak aku. so baik tak yah….

Btw awal2 nya doctor diagnosed him as bronchitis and viral fever.

His blood test is negative ngan influenza, denggi bagai lah, but rerupanya dia kena 2 virus dalam demam and batuk teruknya tuh. One of the virus dalam batuknya ialah Parainfluenza.

Parainfluenza is a very common virus that can cause both upper and lower respiratory infections including colds, bronchiolitis, bronchitis, croup and pneumonia. Despite the name, it’s not linked to the flu because it is not caused by the influenza virus

What is parainfluenza?
Parainfluenza refers to a group of viruses called human parainfluenza viruses (HPIVs). There are four viruses in this group. Each one causes different symptoms and illnesses. All forms of HPIV cause an infection in either the upper or lower respiratory area of a person’s body.

Symptoms of HPIVs are like those of the common cold. When cases are mild, the viruses are often misdiagnosed. Most healthy people infected with an HPIV recover with no treatment. However, a person with a weakened immune system is at risk for developing a life-threatening infection.

TYPES

What are the types of parainfluenza viruses?
Four types of HPIV exist. They all cause a respiratory infection, but the type of infection, symptoms, and location of the infection depend on the type of virus you have. The four types of HPIV can infect anyone.

HPIV-1
HPIV-1 is the leading cause of croup in children. Croup is a respiratory illness that manifests as swelling near the vocal cords and in other parts of the upper respiratory system. HPIV-1 is responsible for outbreaks of croup in the autumn. In the United States, the outbreaks tend to be more widespread in odd-numbered years.

HPIV-2
HPIV-2 causes croup in children, but doctors detect it much less often than HPIV-1. It’s seen mostly in the autumn but to a lesser degree than HPIV-1.

HPIV-3
An HPIV-3 infection is mostly associated with pneumonia and bronchiolitis, which is swelling from inflammation in the smallest airways in the lungs. It often causes infections in the spring and early summer, but it appears throughout the year.

With HPIV-3, the exact period of time you’re contagious hasn’t been determined. However, it has been shown that viral shedding, and therefore the risk of passing on HPIV-3, typically occurs within the first 3 to 10 days of symptoms. In rare cases, viral shedding has been seen up to three to four weeks.

HPIV-4
HPIV-4 is rarer than the other types. Unlike the other strains of HPIV, there are no known seasonal patterns of HPIV-4.

CAUSES

How is parainfluenza transmitted?
You can become infected by an HPIV in several ways. An HPIV can survive on a hard surface for up to 10 hours. If you touch a contaminated surface with your hands and then touch your nose or mouth, you can become infected.

The viruses can also infect you through close contact with an infected person. It usually takes between two and seven days after infection for symptoms to occur.

SYMPTOMS

What are the symptoms of parainfluenza?
Common symptoms of the four types of HPIV are very similar to those of the common cold. They include:

fever
cough
runny nose
stuffy nose
chest pain
sore throat
shortness of breath
wheezing
difficulty breathing

Most often, the symptoms of HPIVs aren’t severe enough to cause concern in healthy adults. But they can be life-threatening in an infant, older adult, or anyone with a compromised or weakened immune system.

If you’re part of a high-risk group and you have HPIV symptoms, you should see a doctor or go to the emergency room.

DIAGNOSIS

How is parainfluenza diagnosed?
If you aren’t part of a high-risk group, your doctor may not diagnose your strain of HPIV. If you have a compromised immune system, your doctor may want to confirm the particular type of HPIV.

Your doctor may do a physical exam to determine if your symptoms match those of HPIVs. For a more accurate diagnosis, your doctor may take a throat or nose swab. They can detect and identify the presence of a virus in a cell culture. Your doctor can also diagnose a specific virus by detecting antigens your body made to fight the virus.

Your doctor may order a chest X-ray or a CT scan of your chest. These are both imaging techniques that allow your doctor to see what’s happening in your respiratory system. X-rays and CT scans can help your doctor determine the extent of symptoms and whether you have complications such as pneumonia.

So begitulah kisahnya, ai know dia kena batuk demam ni from the school, seriously memang aku monitor anak2 aku punya whereabouts, and lagilah sakit bagai kan. But takper, now he s recovering.  Alhamdulillah. For 2 days dia tak pi school, but for 2 days gak sejak discharged dia asyik nak merengek nak melekat je ngan mak nya. Dok ‘nak mami nak mami nak mami‘….

Dia masih dalam recovering process, ada ubat batuk yang powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, super power for his throat, ada spray for throat gak, memang tekak dia in pain lah sepanjang dia demam sakit tuh. cos of that lah dia asyik demam panas memalam gak, and temp sangat tinggi. Yang buat aku muskilnya dah makan ubat batuk clinic pun ko tak bebaik gak, makin teruk demam panas ko, no wonder ler…virus hebat dok kat badan ko rupanya…ubat batuk tu pun hanya ada kat hospital jer. Aku bagi ubat tu pun waktu malam jer, coz tak sampai sejam dia makan ubat tu dia akan terus tidur (sama la masa kat hospital gak).

So begitulah…cecuti kami tak happening pun, just kita pi closing seagames pastuh the next day abang kakak pi IOI Mall main skate, depa pi berduaan jer, grab antau, balik bapaknya jemput. Patut hari Sunday tu lah kita nak pi merasa naik mrt anak beranak (Zeeshan dah hafal scrip ok nak bagi kat orang yang dalam MRT) but kena pulak admit spital.

So cuti 5 hari kami takde le  meriahnya pun. Technically kita cuti 5 hari kan but laki aku cuti weekend tu jer (Germany mana ada cuti raya aji, cuti merdeka ke cuti 4th Monday free, nan hadooooooo).

Insyallah Zeeshan dah getting better, my advise if you bebatuk ke hapa selsema bagai, yang non stop tuh, tolong pakai mask pls. Kalau you tak nak cuti tak nak mc tak nak mengasingkan diri, but please wear mask coz kita kena selamatkan orang lain gak dari gems yang ada dari batuk2 kita tu yek…

coz anak aku pun baru nak sihat, terpaksalah lagi aku reschedule Jakarta trip aku…baru mak kau nak berjalan Shan oi. Takpe, kita pi try lagi naik MRT yek…dia dok teringin nak naik MRT tu lama dah, yet baru je naik LRT pi Stadium, sama je kot feelingnya hiks…
